DESCRIPTION

A chronic disease of the tropics due to infection of the lymphatic channels characterized by inflammation and obstruction of the lymphatics and hypertrophy of the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Usual course - acute; chronic; progressive. Endemic areas - South America; Africa; Asia; tropics; subtropics.

CAUSES
  • microfilariae
  • Wuchereria bancrofti
  • Brugia malayi
  • mosquito vector
