DESCRIPTION

A viral disease first observed in Illinois in 1932, closely similar to western equine encephalomyelitis. It occurs in late summer and early fall. Transmitted usually by mosquitoes of the genus Culex. It ranges from an abortive type of infection to severe disease. Endemic areas - Eastern USA; Midwestern USA.
