Sinus Bradycardia Disease

DESCRIPTION
Rate of less than 60 beats per minute. A QRS complex follows each P wave.
CAUSES
Sick sinus syndrome, hypothyroidism, mechanical ventilation, inferior myocardial infarction, increased intracranial pressure, increased vagal tone (straining at stool), vomiting, intubation, treatment with beta-blockers and sympatholytic drugs
TREATMENT
  • Atropine, 0.5 mg every 5 minutes to total of 2.0 mg if needed
  • Temporary pacemaker if atropine fails
