Smallpox Disease

DESCRIPTION

An acute infectious disease caused by pox virus. This disease is now extinct worldwide due to successful inoculation. Alastrim, a mild form of the disease is known as variola minor.

CAUSES
  • Double-stranded DNA virus transmitted by inhalation
  • Rare family transmission
TREATMENT
Isolation, report to health department, meticulous fluid management, skin hygiene, antihistamines, antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections
